Recent news story: Application Error Keeping Self-Employed Filers from Back Pay.
Based on this news story, people are saying EDD workers are stating that they "cannot back date" which is very UNTRUE.
The PUA FAQ literally says they will pay you $167/week "for each week from February 2, 2020 to March 28, 2020 that you were unemployed due to a COVID-19 related reason".
Another point to make clear -- a lot of members would post conflicting information about the "EDD worker said this" on the Facebook page. For example, one EDD worker was reported saying that you have to bombard them with emails in order to get noticed and another was reported stating that once you send an email, you will not get paid out because the system flags your account to let EDD know that there is an issue that needs to be resolved. Who's right??? Who knows. EDD workers aren't always up to date -- especially with SO MUCH information ALWAYS changing.
Fact is - you should be able to back date to when you were unemployed all the way up to February 2, 2020.
This news report also talks about EDD workers telling you to cancel your claim. You cannot. Read this article here that has more information about cancelling claims. You may only cancel your UI claim if your claim has not ended, a Notice of Determination has not been mailed, no benefits have been paid, and no overpayment has been established on the claim.
Do not try to cancel your claim!!! It'll just circle you back to the beginning and make it even more messy!! Your best bet is to call and get in contact with them (yes, I know -- it's a nightmare!!). Phone tips here.
