Am I eligible?

It states the following to be eligible, you must have "earned enough wages", and be:

​

  • Totally/partially unemployed

  • Unemployed through no fault of your own

  • Physically able to work

  • Available to work

  • Ready and willing to accept work immediately

  • Actively looking for work

NOTE: EDD requires you to meet these requirements as you are on unemployment. Every two weeks you will certify that you meet thee 6 requirements. 

 

What does "earning enough wages" mean?

  • Based on this fact sheet, the calculator above has been created to check if you have "earned enough wages".

  • If you did not "earn enough wages" in the standard base period, they will look at your alternate base period. If you don't have enough wages on neither, you will qualify for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)

I choose to stay home from work due to underlying health conditions and concerns exposure to the virus. Do I qualify?

  • You can be eligible for benefits if you choose to stay home. Once you file your claim, the EDD will contact you if they need more information.

My child's school shut down and I have to miss work to care for them who is not ill. Do I qualify?

  • You "may" be eligible. EDD reps will determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis by scheduling a phone interview with you.

  • For example, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits if your employer has temporarily allowed you to work less than full-time hours due to your child care situation. In such case, you may be eligible for reduced benefits based on the amount of your weekly earnings, as long as you meet all other eligibility requirements. EDD will contact you and your employer for more information to determine eligibility.

 

My child's school shut down and I have to stay home to care for them. I'm not currently employed or had to quit work because of my child care needs, can I collect benefits?

  • EDD website states that you "may" be eligible and an EDD rep will determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis by scheduling a phone interview with you.
