1/15/21 EDD News Release

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

I reopened my claim! What happens to me?

  • People who reopened their claim before receiving an official notice from EDD will be allowed to certify for later weeks and will SEPARATELY have the earlier weeks available to them

  • THIS MEANS - it is possible you will have a few weeks missing but don't panic! They will be made available to you LATER

PUA with Remaining Balance

  • EDD is automatically re-opening PUA claimants who had a balance remaining

  • You do NOT have to re-open your claim, EDD will do that for you

  • You will be notified via email, text, or mailed notice when you can certify

  • EDD expects to complete re-opening of these claims by January 22

PUA with no balance remaining

  • You are part of the next phase and EDD is working on the programming

  • Weeks of unemployment starting December 27 will be payable, any prior weeks is going to be worked on

PEUC with Remaining Balance

  • EDD is automatically re-opening PEUC claimants who had a balance remaining

  • You do NOT have to re-open your claim, EDD will do that for you

  • You will be notified via email, text, or mailed notice when you can certify

  • EDD expects to complete re-opening of these claims by January 22

PEUC with no balance remaining

Overpayments

Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)

  • EDD is currently looking to US Department of Labor for guidance on how to implement this program

  • See federal provision on EDD website

Identity Verification

  • The vast majority of people will need to verify their ID

  • Here is a step-by-step guide to help complete your verification

  • You can also verify your ID on a video call

  • CONTINUE CERTIFYING to minimize any delays to processing your claim

EDD requesting for information

Your claim has an eligibility issue and EDD needs you to complete a questionnaire to determine if you meet requirements for continued benefits

Fraudulent claims

There are two kinds of fraudulent activity and how to go about it depends where it comes from:

  1. EDD saying there is fraudulent activity

  2. Bank of America saying there's fraudulent activity

If you DID NOT receive a notice from EDD that more information is needed, then the issue lies with Bank of America which you can call 1-866-692-9374

NOTE: Many claimants have said they continue to be tossed back and forth from EDD to Bank of America. There is no known obvious solution, but here is the Facebook thread for discussion.
