7/16 News Release

Updated: Feb 9, 2021

Full news release here. Summary below:

Extra $600 payments coming to an end

  • Additional $600 will end on the week of 7/25 unless it extended by the federal government

  • If you have weeks pending that are PRIOR to 7/25 -- you will get paid the additional $600 even if this issue is addressed after July 25

  • For example -- let's say today is August 1 and you still have weeks pending from May that has not paid you out yet. The $600 will still apply to those weeks in May, but will not pay additional $600 for anything after July 25.

If your next certification is 7/26:

7/12 - 7/18 will include the additional $600 (assuming week qualifies as eligible)

7/19 - 7/25 will include the additional $600 (assuming week qualifies as eligible)

Your next certification on 8/9 will NOT include the 600

If your certification lands on 8/2:

7/19 - 7/25 will include the additional $600 (assuming week qualifies as eligible)

7/26 - 8/1 you can qualify for your weekly benefit amount that is shown on your main page, but it will NOT include the additional 600

Common Questions

I went back to work, but was laid off again and need benefits. How do I do that?

  • UI Online is the fastest way to reopen a claim as long as you're still within your benefit year

  • In most cases, it takes within a few days to a week. If you don't meet eligibility, staff will have to manually follow up.

  • Here is a video tutorial

Are there benefits available after I run out of my initial regular UI benefits?

  • If you run out, you could potentially qualify for PEUC, which is another 13 weeks of benefits provided by the federal government. This program ends at the end of the year. More info here

Do I need to do anything to get PEUC?

If you are still within your 12-month benefit year and you've run out of benefits:

  • EDD will automatically file a PEUC claim for you

  • You will get a notice in the mail 5-7 business days later with more info

If your benefit year has expired:

  • You have to reapply for benefits

  • If you did not earn enough to qualify for a new claim you will:

  1. Get a $0 award notice in the mail on that new claim

  2. Within a few days, get another notice showing that EDD automatically filed a PEUC extension for you and you need to certify your benefits

What happens when I run out of PEUC, the 13 week extension and I'm still unemployed?

You could qualify for FED-ED which is an additional 20 weeks of benefits

  • Details on eligibility here

  • If you meet eligibility requirements, EDD will automatically file FED-ED extension

  • You will be mailed a notice of eligibility

If you DO NOT qualify for FED-ED

  • You will receive notice on disqualification

  • EDD will open/reopen a PUA claim for you to help you maintain benefits

  • You will get a notice entitled Immediate Action Required - Pandemic Unemploymenet Assistance Self-Certification to attest you meet PUA eligibility

  • Send this notice back to EDD

NOTE: Maximum benefits of PUA is 46 weeks, BUT if you've received any regular UI benefits, those weeks will count against the 46 weeks

  • Ex. 46 weeks - # of weeks on regular UI = how many weeks your PUA will last

What's the best way to get information? Answers to my questions?
