I'm so lost, I'm not even sure if this is the right forum to ask this. I was in the regular UI track, but my benefits ran out in September. This is because I'm typically a freelancer, but had one W2 job back in early 2019, forcing me into the UI track (as opposed to PUA).
Because of this I had very little actual UI benefits, and exhausted them by September, so I didn't re-certify. Now that this new act as passed, I tried to re-certify, but it says there is nothing for me to certify. My UI balance is at $0.
It says to wait two weeks and check back. But I'm nervous, because what happened last Spring is every time they told me to wait, I would, but not to worry, I would get backdated benefits. That never actually happened. Now I'm worried it's happening again. I feel so stuck.
Any help greatly appreciated.
EDD is implementing programs so I would agree that right now you would need to wait -- at least one week. They said they'd be implementing the program Jan 10 - Jan 23, so I would wait at least that. But in any other situation I would say no, you shouldn't stand by only because if you don't directly address your issue they aren't going to help. They have millions of people calling in so it's very easy to get your situation lost in the mix if you don't try to handle it yourself.
As for a w2/1099 hybrid, CA law is required to process your claim as a W2 if you have qualifiable wages. The 1099 income becomes irrelevant. A lot of people are in this predicament that are hybrids having a low WBA b/c of their small W2 -- EDD is implementing a new program soon called MEUC (mixed earners unemployment compensation) which is an additional $100 on top of the $300 federal stimulus (FPUC)
